Hi

Been reading about Buddy BCD's and Crack Bottles and as I am of to Sharm next week to try out my Explorer I will try but might not get a blank in time!

My question is, couldn't I leave it connected but turn the bottle off?

Why do you need a blank?
I sometimes use my commando (when stuck for weight) without the mini bottle and it works fine!

Unless AP have drastic changed design the bottle stays closed until you need it.

Yes you can use it without the bottle been filled but since you have it why not try it out ?

You'll need some practice with it, start some were shallow and have a play and see what it can do.

The idea is to feed a little air into the jacket at a time, not in one big Whoosh !

But beware that if fired off from depth you'll turn into a Polaris missile.
Safe diving and enjoy Sharm

If you don't want to take the bottle with you then that should be fine too.

The post should be a one way valve so the bottle does not need to be connected.

You can test this out by orally inflating the jacket without the bottle connected.

If it stays inflated for a good long time then the one way valve is fully functional.

Hi
You might like to read this thread (http://www.bsacforum.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=11804) (among others) particularly my posts of course.

Just to confirm for you :

You can simply remove the bottle and use the BC without it, you don’t need the blanking plate (the post has a valve in it). Fitting the blanking plate just allows you to remove the extra bulk of the post which is no longer needed.

Re “turn the bottle off”.
In normal operation the bottle valve would be closed anyway (I assume that’s what you are referring to, please correct me if wrong). I would recommend you to remove the bottle for a dive, if the bottle is empty, as you could risk getting water inside it.

Sorry to disappoint Maria

Hope that is of help ..

Ari is correct, but there is a blanking plate waiting for you if you want one!

He's not bad Andy, he's not bad. :)

Mind, he'll probably want to flog it to you at some exorbitant price. ;) ;)

1 x Bottle of my favourite lager is my usual selling price if I have spare stuff lying around :)

Sounds good. :)

Could even persuade me to come to your neck of the woods.

On second thoughts, naaaaah. Too much to do and explore here, that Pacific is BIIIIIIG!
