I am holidaying in Corsica later in the year and thought I might try SCUBA. My question is how do I organise Insurance cover at least cost? My Travel Insurance will only 'upgrade' if I have a PADI qualification but this is catch 22. I don't even know at this point if I will get around to taking a course or even find that whilst I am on holiday it is not possible (maybe it is full/ maybe they are shut....).
Is it usual for overseas Clubs/providers to provide some insurance cover as an extra cost , and is it extortiantly priced? I don't really want to pay out for something I might not use.
Any guidance much appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

I would have thought if you were doing their course to learn to dive you would be covered by their insurance for it.
I'd contact the local dive centre to confirm.
best wishes,

Give them a ring on Tuesday, I'm sure they can offer you something suitable.
P.S. I've only picked divemaster as they where the first I though of & I have used them myself.

People on sunloungers who get approached for a try dive dont buy extra insurance on the spur of the moment, if you are doing a course with an established outfit then they will no doubt be covered but always beat to check. As for standard holiday insurance, this usually covers diving and as you are under supervision this should not be an issue I have never been asked for proof of qualification upon asking of diving is covered. However, I agree with the above post, take out your insurance for the trip as a whole with divemaster... no doubts then and again, this is a company I have used before...infact now always use for the full insurance package much to the dislike of the travel agant as they miss out on commission... oh well ;)

There are loads of really useful insurance sites online such as this one from Thisismoney (http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/insurance) and this one on travel insurance advice (http://www.insurefor.com/b2c/advice.aspx). This is also a really good one on types and cost of travel insurance (http://uk.moneto.eu/insurance/travel-insurance/) and last but not least, this government site (http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travelling-and-living-overseas/staying-safe/health/) is very useful!
Hope you find them helpful!!

Small hint - RBS Royalties gold account also includes travel insurance which covers diving to 30m provided you're qualified and diving with a qualified buddy or diving with a certified diving instructor. Check http://www.rbs.co.uk/personal/current-accounts/g1/extra-benefit-accounts/royalties-gold.ashx for more info. It doesn't show the full terms of the travel insurance, but I'm sure you could ask at a branch for confirmation.

Also talk with BSAC new insurnce provider
http://www.travel4scuba.co.uk/
also consider doing theory and pool here in UK and just teh diving referal out on holiday, will waste less of your hols. Might mean that PADI will be the better training route but then come back and try with a local dive club once you are hooked
It's an old thread thats been dragged back to life, but might be of use to others for future trip.
Cheapest one I've found so far is
http://www.direct-travel.co.uk/
Covered to the depth of your qualification.
