Situation : I dive, but my partner doesn't. We have 10 days in August to spare. We have been to the Red Sea a few times. She likes that. On to the boat at the start of the day, lounge around on fake grass towards the dive site, get rid of me for an hour while she can snorkel, back together for lunch, then the same routine in the afternoon. Perfect.

Problem: I want to go somewhere else for a change, and I don't fancy August Egyptian weather. But she doesn't want to be on her own all day while I go out on my own on the foreign equivalent of a RIB.

Solution : the Egyptian experience, but not in Egypt.

Some ideas: Grand Cayman. Lots of possibilities for scheduling the dives so you're almost not missed - or alternatively your wife can go on the boat too exactly like Egypt. There's also plenty of shore diving from various hotel sites where she could use the pool ie Sunset House, Coconut Harbour. Its more expensive than Egypt tho, but one of the few places where the walls are comparable. Really, really good and big fish too. August is the off season (can shower but nothing to worry about, mainly at night) so its cheaper. Look at the article trip reports. We were there in August of last year and had a fantastic time.
Turkey. Have you thought about a dive gulet trip. Sposed to be absolutely idyllic. Diving is nice rather than spectacular I believe. Pretty reasonable too.
Bonaire or Curacao in Caribbean. Both of them offer loads of diving right off the beach. Look at the sections in the Where part of the website. Great for photography.

Actually, Egypt in August is not as bad as you think it might be, speaking as one who's done it. It is HOT but, funnily enough you don't feel it because of the dryness of the air. You just have to literally force feed yourself water. The water is great that time too. Still, perhaps not the best time to go if both of you aren't going to be underwater for significant lengths of time!! Still, ignoring that, have you done different parts of the Red Sea? It's quite different in the deep South from around Hurghada or Sharm for instance. Dahab is different again and I hear that Taba Heights is good. The hotels there look great and there's direct flights now. I don't think the diving is as jaw dropping as it is further south though.

An unusual one, that's a bit further afield and off the beaten track, but its a great time of the year to go there if you want to see really big creatures is the Sea of Cortez (Baja Mexico). The main diving season is quite short but the summer brings the mantas, whalesharks and hammerheads and August is the month when the water viz clears up. If you stay in La Paz you can dive a lot of the famous sea mounts on 2 dive trips and its good ashore too. The Cortez Club is one operator down there but there are others.

Hope that helps. Have a good time where-ever you fetch up and don't forget to write us a trip report on it.

Maldives-went to meerufefushi in 2000 my misses doesn`t dive either, most dive sites we visited were a round trip of about two hours, surely she can spare you for a couple of hours lounging on white sand surrounded by crystal clear water while you get wet!

How about trying something closer to home e.g. Malta or Gozo I know the fish life is not the same as in the Red sea but it is very spectacular diving. The locals are v nice and do not hassel you like they do in Egypt!
You could also try Cyprus and dive the Xenobia have not been there myself but it might be worth a look.
