What is the best way to take your regulator/console abroad. I intend to take these away with me and was going to put them in with my wetsuits etc in what is basically a hold all. I am concerned that this will leave them open to damage when in transit. Is it sensible therefore to carry these as part of hand luggage?

Hello Graham
Yes in fact we are advised that any pressure sesitive instuments i.e. depth gauge, computer etc should be carried in the cabin and not as hold luggage.
Have a good trip and keep on divin'

Why?
The hold of all aircraft is at the same pressure as the cabin so it makes no difference

That is not necessarily the case. On some, typically smaller, aircraft the hold is not pressurised. I have travelled on BA and QF on equipment where the hold is not pressurised. This is typically the smaller aircraft.

Setting aside pressured or not in holds, you must also bear in mind that when the luggage goes through a scanner it might show up as an unusual device. If it does then your luggage will be opened as a suspicious object. If you have a computer attached you MUST put it in your hand luggage as it is an electrical item.
Finaly whenever I go abroad I always carry it in my hand luggage. I don't want it pinched or damaged during transit and unusable when I get to the dive destination.
