Copy of e-mail I recived Saturday

Good Morning,

Horsea Island Dive Centre’s existence as a civilian dive site is under threat from ongoing pressure from the military, and it is this reason we are emailing you. Those of you that have visited us in the last few days will have noticed a petition asking for support so that we can show the military that we provide a vital service to local and national divers.

Over the last ten years we have worked positively and successfully with the military and of course schools/clubs and divers like you and we hope to show this. If you would like to show your support for us here at Horsea then please can you reply to this email with messages of support detailing why you use us, and also why you would like us to stay open servicing your needs.

Once we have had the responses we will be showing them to the military in order to gain more weight to show solidarity within the diving community.

We thank you for your continuing support and hope that this issue can be resolved quickly.

Kind Regards

The Horsea Island Dive Centre Team

Dear Horsea,
Please advise the military that Horsea is vital to the safety of divers around the south because it provides an ideal location to:
1. train new divers in a relatively shallow, stable environment without tides, currents, drop offs to worry about
2. work out correct buoyancy required for salt water diving
3. test new equipment in safe, shallow water
4. provide an income for the military
5. increase goodwill between civilian and military community

In the south, we do not have sea lochs, nor secluded coves to do all this. Please let us keep Horsea.

Been on the Horsea Island website, and there's no mention of this threat, or asking anyone to send an e-mail of support (which I am more than happy to do).

I've asked them for verification on this, as I would have thought that they would have put this up in big letters, etc. If there was such a threat.

I'll let you know of any response I get, or better still, they may post on here direct!

Cheers,

Chris

The threat appears to be real. Horsea have petitions posted on the door and have copied the template out to local clubs.

Aye,
They've just e-mailed me back with a copy of their petition form. I'm printing it out, and will be taking it up the club tomorrow night. Hope to get about 30-odd signatures that way.

Hopefully, we can prevent the loss of the much needed resource!

Cheers,

Chris

Aye,

Hopefully, we can prevent the loss of the much needed resource! It will certainly become a lot harder to train divers safely around here if we lose access.

Thanks for taking the time Richard.
