Hey, Im new to this forum and was curious as to what diving is like in Croatia in September time? Ive only been to Egypt on organised excursions but would fancy a holiday out there and a bit of diving to spice things up a bit.. Also where would be a good place to go, Ive heard Korcula is good but any advice would be much appreciated!

My only diving experience in Croatia is around Dubrovnik in October 2004. The water was still warm (21C) and the vis generally good to very good. The fish life was not prolific and I don't remember much in the way of corals (am comparing to Oz/PNG and Indonesia - my back yard). Wreck diving was good - Totono wreck about half an hour out of Dubrovnik was worth the effort. Also, the effects of tides and currents are almost negligible so diving is easy. We dived with Navis Divers, Petra and her husband (can't remember his name) were very good and Petra speaks perfect English. You'll also find accommodation very affordable and good quality for what you're paying. We spent an hour at Korcula en route to Dubrovnik and it looked great. Another option - but we didn't dive there - is the island of Hvar, north of Korcula, and on the same ferry run. A lovely place with plenty to do.

We dived from Vela Luka on Korcula Island in Oct 2005, there are a couple of reports in the BSAC Travel Club.

As you will see we were less than impressed with our dive center, but the town was nice and very cheap.

There is a BSAC Centre in the larger town of Korcula and i suspect you will get a better experience there.

It will depend on your diving as well. We had a quite experienced group of divers who did not like being treated like idiots/beginners.

Army Question:- Are you a Tiger?

hiya

last june we stayed on Brac Island (pronounced "Bratch") - gorgeous little island with the main centre of Bol - top class restaurents and bars around a lovely marina..... we stayed in the rui borak hotel 5 mins walk from the spit head beach.......

http://www.bol-croatia.com/

associated with the hotel was "deepblue" divers - SSA and PADI.

the diving was really enjoyable, no current, easy leaisurely dives on a day boat, one in morning, return for lunch and out again in the afternoon....

while the scenary underwater wasnt anywhere near as colourful as the red sea, we still saw lobsters, sea horses and two large grouper..... but the reffs were still good and there was one extreme drop off which was awesome.....

deepblue guys were brilliant, ceasar and igor the main dive masters were great - even allowing mrs b to come out on the boat everyday to snorkel - no charge!

I also borrowed regs and bottle from them but as i took own bc, mask, fins etc, and did 7 dives with them they dropped the hire charge for the kit!!!

worked out at something like £8 a dive!!!!!!

loved it, really friendly, and defo going back.......

Should have added i hope to go diving in Croatia again, but am leaning towards the Island of Viz and its Technical Dive Centre, i also fancy Dubrovnik area.

Apparently (From an expat and his wife) August is to be avoided as half of Germany go there then ;)

Hi Ski,

I've dived around Korcula and had a good time. I went with Steve and Jan Collett who run a BS-AC Premier school there.

Just arrived back from Rogoznica area where we enjoyed the September summer: nice weather on the surface, 24 degrees at 2 meters depth, 16 at 30... We saw some typical species of the Adriatic, I posted two videos here (http://divejungle.blogspot.com/2011/09/recent-encounters.html).

I wrote a short report with photos (http://divejungle.blogspot.com/2011/09/razanj-trip-diary.html) as well, if you're interested.

I did a few dives in Croatia two years ago around split or Bol I can't remember now. The vis was pretty good (about 10m). I did a cave dive... a little opening on the sea bed that opened up into one massive bowl. Not much in there but a nice experience all the same.

I don't have any details of who I went with at this moment but will check my logs and add to this later.

I would recommend going to Croatia for the country itself and the diving.
