Just wanted to alert everyone that we have done a lot of development to the Caribbean sections of the Where part of the Travel Club. We've tried to cover as many relevant islands as possible plus the Caribbean mainlands of Mexico and Honduras plus the nearby Sea of Cortez. Each area now has a comprehensive overview, map, weather information, Reality Check, links to official tourist information sites, diving guide recommendations, links to recommended dive operations, links to relevant magazine articles about diving the area, and of course our own trip reports.
Have a look at the pages and hopefully they will be useful in planning a future trip - we have already started to receive some encouraging feedback from non members who have found the pages!
Having got the pages to a basic level, we will continue to grow and develop them, so keep checking back.
Of course, what will really make the information rich and of even more value to us all is to gather informative trip reports from YOU. It doesn't have to be much: 2 pages of text plus a few photographs if possible. Photographs of the hotel, dive shop, dive boat etc are just as useful - probably more so - than underwater ones, so don't think you have to have an u/w setup. See the Guidelines section on writing a trip report, but don't be intimidated by this. I'd rather have 1/2 page of good information than 10 pages of faff.
Thanks
Allie

The BSAC Jamaica Branch (No 51) is planning a dive trip to Santiago De Cuba. Does anyone know of dive locations/resorts around that area of Cuba? We do not want to travel too far from the city as we are only there for 3 days.
Should anyone want information on diving the non-resort areas of Jamaica from Discovery Bay eastwards round to Kingston we would be pleased to help
Regards

Hi Steve and greetings to JSAC. I once spent a couple of great days diving with the branch about 12 years ago after I had staffed a BSAC instructor event based at the Jamaica University branch. We went diving from dugouts which was an interesting experience!!! Seriously, we had a fantastic time in the Port Antonio area with you - it was absolutely beautiful.
I haven't any personal experience of diving this part of Cuba - please post in if anyone else has - but I found a link below about diving in that area which I hope will help. It sounds as if it will be good with buoyed dive sites and a good mix of scenery. There are maps of the dive sites on this page which give you some idea of the proximity and spread to various hotels. Please write us a short report for the site to help other divers that follow you.
Also,--sorry to be cheeky here-- it would be fantastic to get the sort of insider information on the dive sites in Jamaica from the branch. Would you consider writing us some pages on that? All I need is the text in Word format preferably and if possible some pictures both above and below the water. Be honest, but not libellous!!! Warts and all reports are what is required.
Sometimes its hard for visiting members to contact the local branch - inevitably telephone numbers etc change, so if JSAC welcomes visiting divers, that info would be useful in the report.
All the best and look forward to hearing from you I hope.

Hi Allie
Many thanks for yours. Sorry for not getting back to you any earlier. Shall follow up on the Cuba link and if we go (almost a sure) we shall send in a report.
I will also send in an up-date on contacts for the club - we always welcome guests and visitors, and shall most definately get back with a synposis of diving in these parts plus photos.
Regards for now
