View Full Version : BlueOtwo
Anyboby have anyexperience with the BlueOtwo liveaboards in the red sea, particularly the newly refurbished Blue Fin. Any info would be good as to how this company runs its vessels - dive guides, food, staff etc...
Thanks

I've dived with Blue O Two now on six liveaboards - including Fin, Horizon and due to go this Friday on Melody for a northern wreck tour (again)!
Our club goes with Blue O two once or twice per year - can't fault them - foods excellent, dive guides great and crew very helpful. I know the guys who run the organisation, they too are graet guys and have a great UK and Egypt team
Regards
Phil

Did horizon this year and compared to tornado's (backurst) whirlwind
26 on Horizon is noticeably more that 20 as means 3 RHib waves
Food better on backhurst if you are a vege (and there is more choice per seating)
Backhurst goes out of sharm so when bad weather there are lots of options (and can dive marine parks). Blue O2 is Hurghada so has less options
Both companies seem to be run well and give what you expect for the high end of the red sea market (its still bloody cheap) , good guides, good food, good cabins etc.

I was on Blue Fin last August (before the re-furb?) and it was lovely.
We had an English guide and all the Rhib and deck crew were trained to rescue diver level.
The food, service and general standards were excellent. I would recommend Blue O2.

Thanks for all the comments, now booked on Blue Melody for a Northern reefs and wrecks tour in May. I an a novice diver with 15 logged dives and qualified to PADI AOW but will pursue a local dive club up here in Scotland to further my quals.
For all of you who have done liveaboards any further advice on the do and dont's, what to bring with you and leave behind, basically any further information would be appreciated.
Will let you all know how I rate this kind of trip Vs Day diving from a nice hotel.
Ps What goes on at night after dinner - entertainment wise, might be a silly question but should I bring laptop, dvd,s etc... I suppose it depends on what kind of group you get etc....
Thanks
David.

Well, probably a night dive...
I've not been on the melody, but on blue0two's other boats there is a large plasma screen in the lounge connected to a DVD player. So a few DVD's would proberly be a good idea.

At night on liveaboards.
Depends on the group.
Blue Fin is well setup - there is a TV/DVD player in every cabin, and a very large plasma screen thing in the main saloon. You can take a few DVD's, and watch them easily. There is a fridge full of beer, and a fridge full of soft drinks. If you pickup a bottle of Vodka/Gin/etc in the duty free, then you'll be set for the week aswell.
I have a variety of silly card games which I take with me on trips - usually easy to get a group together with a beer or two.

Hi,
I've just rteurned from Blue Melody today. A group of 26 did the Northern wrecks/reefs - a great trip! I will write more later when i've cleaned my kit!
Those who are going on Blue Melody wont be dissapointed - yes they do have DVds and a large TV screen in both lounges! On this safari there's plenty of night dives!
I did all 20 dives!
More detail to follow.

Just got back from the Blue Fin yesterday. I had the double suite, and it was lovely. I couldn't fault the chef the food was excellent, and the crew were very friendly and always ready to help. The guide, Andes, was fantastic, I can't wait to do with them again. Enjoy your trip!

Lisa W,
Were you on the military exped? I was on Blue Melody at the same time! I'm ex:military but our trip was a civilian trip.
Glad you had a great time.

Another trip booked on Blue Melody in Sept 08, Brothers, Daedulus and Elphinstone - looking forward to diving these again, did them in June 07 from Horizon had a great time.
Had confirmation from Dr Elke B. that the photos I e-mailed her thinking they were Risso Dolphins were in fact False Killer Whales. Saw them whilst carrying out a safety stop in the blue at Ras Mohammed in Feb 08, how lucky was that!
