I am an experienced diver (BSAC Adv) who wants some good diving, and my boyfriend wants to learn to dive. We have thought about the Canaries as a warm, relatively cheap place that might suit this combination for a week's holiday at Easter, and wondered if anyone had any recommendations of particular dive schools etc, or other locations?

I went to Lanzarote last Easter, loved it, much nicer than the over populated Summer time. I learnt the previous year to dive (or learnt to learn to dive?) with Calipso in Costa Teguise. Top outfit, great diving. Easter time I stayed in Peurto Del Carmen, great choice of food etc, CT tends to be a bit too quiet at Easter for me. Go and enjoy. If you can, get to Mala, although as a trainee your boyfriend might not be allowed to do this one, bit deep. But it was super. Look out for the rays and the Angel sharks - magic. Calips are on the web www.calipso-diving.com and are both Bsac and Padi, they might try to steer you towards Padi quals though, talk to Pete (the owner - great bloke), he seems a bit chaotic at first but he's on the ball and it all just seems to hang together somehow, mark of a true pro.

Myself and a lot of our club members love diving in Lanzarote. We use Safari diving in Puerto Del Carmen, they are an excellent PADI and BSAC school and if you are a qualified instructor they would have no problems with you doing the teaching your self. The dive school is right on the sand and has a lovley sheltered bay that is just right for beginners. There are loads of good diving sites within a few minutes rib ride (five ships were sunk on purpose just out side the old harbour and make a great dive).
The resort itself is fantastic and caters for all tastes
