I have been doing research on the whereabouts of my Uncle Lt. Ben Brew on the internet and have discovered that his plane crashed into the Irish Sea 1 mile off of Nefyn (Nevin in the official report), Wales. Lt. Brew was listed as MIA and never recovered.
Being a diver for the last 30 years, I figured that fellow divers may have come across this wrecked plane. If you have any information please send me an email at david.vonrinteln@eds.com . Here is the details of his plane. Tail number 16234. He flew out of Atcham, Shropshire with the 495th Fighter Training Group (495th FTG) and was in the 552nd Fighter Squadron. The 552nd used the DQ designator on the side of the fuselage.
On July 23, 1944 they where practicing dog fighting over the Irish Sea and where on their way back to base when his plane stalled and crashed.
The following is from the offical record.
440723 BREW, BENJAMIN A P-47C 41-6234 NEVIN 1 MILE OFF SHORE, UK 495 STALL

Another report suggest information that the plane went down in the English Channel (inaccurate?) and the plane was condemned the next day.

6234 (495th FTG, 552nd FTS) ditched 1 mi offshore in English Channel Jul 23, 1944. Condemned due to damage Jul 24, 1944
Thanks for the help.
