Steve,

We have just updated the Dominican Republic web page with some new info including a diving report from Mike Bailey, a member who has visited recently. You could also look at the U.S. site for Rodales Scuba magazine that has various trip reports and also a bulletin board. They have a lot of info on Dominican Republic too. The URL for that is www.scubadiving.com and there is a link to their tripfinder about 1/2 way down on the left where you select the destination.

Alison

PS PLEASE write a trip report for our site if you go, email it to the webmaster--just 2 pages with a couple of pictures.

Well, someone once said that a picture paints a thousand words, so I'll certainly be pleased with that!!! Seriously, we need info from travelling members to answer queries just like yours. I'm putting up the basic, general stuff about the Caribbean and linking to more info on the tourist board sites, but what really counts is the truthful views of divers who have actually been there.

The Dominican Republic is a good personal example of this. We've been looking for a holiday too - in the Caribbean - and I dismissed the DR right out of hand because I had got the idea that the diving was mediocre and it was all complexes of all-inclusive hotels. My opinion didn't particularly change when I looked at the Tourist Board site - nearly every one of them says that their island has "the best diving in the Caribbean" or words to that effect. It was only when I started to read what visiting divers were saying that I was forced to revise my opinion and I must admit I quite fancy having a trip there myself now. It sounds really good, especially for a mixed group where there are non divers too.

Anyway, hope you have a great time and will look forward to the report.
