Hi all,

I'm due to do some work in Oman for 3 weeks or so in Feb/Mar. It looks like I may get a weekend or two off and have every intention of doing some diving out there. I'll be down in the south of the country quite near to Salalah. All I can really find on the internet is this site (http://www.omanet.om/english/tourism/sports/scuba.asp?cat=tour&subcat=entert1) but I'm not convinced that the information is very current; the branch that is mentioned on the link doesn't seem to appear on the BSAC website.

There seems to be lots of information on diving around Muscat but that's quite a long way away. Has anybody got any experience of diving around Salalah or better still has anybody got any up to date information on dive centres around that area? I'll probably be limited in the amount of kit I can take so will be looking to hire most of the kit out there.

Many thanks in advance,

James

Hi
I'd try emailing one of the two Oman branches - look at our Branch finder. Here is a link to the web page of one of them:
http://www.bsacoman.com/index.html

I's sure they'd be glad to advise.

Janos taking you diving isn't the problem, what they are actually worried about is surviving ;)

You could try and get hold of Neil Bedwin at Muscat.
There used to be a whole bunch of divers in Salalah in the '80,s and some more at Thumrait.
Most were Airwork employees.
Hope this helps.

We live in Abu Dhabi but don't get there quite nearly often enough.
A friend of mine just did his PADI DM course with an outfit in Salalah and had great things to say about them. In case the BSAC divers are not active you will find some very nice diving there. Even tough it is a little cold this time of year by my standards :P

I will ask him as he is a BSAC fellow so he will likely know the status of things there. It should be a good trip. It is beautiful country.
