Hi All,
Question here, i suspect i already know the answer to this, but, as an overseas club, our instructor resources are very thin on the ground. We have limited regional support but we have support in other states (read other countries, as it might as well be...).
However, our primary instructors in the club are either Club instructors or we have 1 assistant advanced instructor, who has "almost" completed their advanced. Also, one of the club instructors is trimix trained, and another is a rebreather diver. As it stands, we have a couple of people who want training in the following:
1. Instructor training
2. Advanced Diver training
3. Trimix training
Now, ignoriing any "support" we may have, is it feasible for the club to provide any of this training with the instructor resources that we have???
Neil
I ask this, as,
Short answer - no :(
Where overseas are you?
Inviting a couple of instructor trainers over to run an AI exam would make you able to run normal traiing up to AD in branch.
The might also be able to run an OWIC for your CI's, who could then easily become OWIs.
Have you discussed with HQ shipping some willing insturctors out for a teaching-holiday? They might even pay their own way if cheap diving and accom were laid on.
As BSAC stands - instructor training (as in, being on a course and doing an exam) is all centrally organsied and trimix training needs approved isntructors, so your trimix divers need trimix instructor tickets.
Apaprt from that you sound pretty stuck!
No reaso nwhy you can't practise skills & extand people's experience. but you're on dodgy ground teaching stuff without having been assessed/approved as an instructor.
Iain.

We are not quite as pinched for instructors. We have a shed-load of them kicking around. But as an overseas branch we have the same issues when it comes to Instructor TRAINING.
This last time we were flying someone in from the UK but in the end it fell through. Instead we brought in Peter Bolton from Qatar. (he must have been busy in the first place because he is usually our go-to guy)
I guess it depends on the region you are in, the local diving and time of year. :)

I ask this, as,
Short awnser is no.
1. Instructor training must be undertaken by an NI as course boss with
further Instructor Trainers as assistants.
2. Your AAI can do some of Advanced, but would need to be a full AI to
complete some modules. To get your AAI to AI you would need to run an
AIE and that would need an NI to run it.
3. The syllabus for this was only run out last year and there are limited
courses in the UK let alone abroad. I'd look elsewhere.
Whatever way you look at it, you are going to either get your guys to come
to the UK, go on a combined event like one of ours or even arrange for an NI
to come over.
I'd be tempted to cost a week where you do an IFC, OWIC and AIE. That
would take 5 days and you'd hopefully end up with a load of new ADI's,
OWI's and an AI.

Hi Neil
I have a holiday planned to the Melbourne area (I believe about 50mins to an hour from the centre of Melbourne) next year. I'm due to be around from the 23rd March for about ten days. I am an AI, FCD and Instructor Trainer but not trimix qualified. I would be more than willing to help where possible.
I think the difficultly with the instructor courses as previously mentioned is the 'boss' for the course needs to be an NI.
Not quite sure how you got an AAI without finishing AD, I thought it was a prerequiste.
If you wish to send me a PM with the exact requirements I will check out what is possible.
Cheers
Dave

What about Stuart Cannon, he is an NI and is a BSAC Mixed Gas and rebreather instructor. I'm not sure what part of Australia he is based in though.

Thanks all,
just pinged out a couple of pm's to people. Thanks all for caring. Still in my first year as DO and learning a lot of things very quickly.
So thanks again.
