Someone is going to pick up a pair of these for me on Thursday.

If anyone knows a much better replacement for these, please say. Though, since one of my swimming colleagues has them and finds them very useful, it would take a strong argument to dissuade me.

it would take a strong argument to dissuade me.

If they are going to be useful and comfortable then buy them, only you are going to know that. I guess you are using open heeled fins because they look a bit bulky for slipper/ full foot type ones.

Sounds like you have made up your mind. :p

Thank you.

I'm pretty confident on them being useful and comfortable as I have feedback from another swimmer.

I wouldn't be using them with fins at all. I might try using fins with just my Reed chillcheater socks. My fins are swimming training fins, and don't have open heels. They do have open toes however. My fins are a very tight fit and I don't believe I'd be able to use them with 5mm neoprene socks. I do have some Lidl water shoes (£3.99 :) ), which I would wear with them. They're a loose fit, and I'm sure they'd go over the socks.

What would dissuade me is if people said that they'd had some of these socks (or similar ones by the same manufacturer) and they fell apart/holed/etc. in double quick time. Meaning that the cheap socks were a false economy.

I'm having them picked up for me on Thursday evening. So feedback today or tomorrow is useful.

I don't use the socks you are lookin at but I do use their undersocks. I find they are warm and fit well under wetsuit boots.

I've used decathalon kit for a few years and find it very hard wearing, it's just a change there are non in the South West.

My booties flush cold water like a sieve and my feet used to get cold quickly.

I bought 2mm neoprene socks from 'no limit wetsuits' via their ebay shop. Since then I've had warm feet on my dives, they're thin enough to wear under booties and stop the flushing. Cost more than others on the market but they are longer in length. find them on ebay by searching 'no limit sock'.

Well worth the money.

I've only used the socks on New Year's Day itself. As an experiment I wore a chillcheater sock underneath one "triboard" bootie, and just the bootie on the other foot.

My feet were fine. In fact, when I poured the water out of the bootie after the swim, it felt warm, like bathwater. This was at an arguable 4C (*). Booties are no longer a limiting factor. So that problem is solved.

I didn't notice much difference between the foot with the extra sock and the one without.

(*) My £1 pound something aquarium thermometer said 7C, a very large and expensive looking brewer's thermometer said 4C.
