View Full Version : [BUG] : Gallery Image Posting

There seem to be several bugs in the Gallery, until somebody can find the time to test and investigate this we may have to turn it off.

Bug #1 : When posting an image you are limited by a maximum file size and dimensions, this can be seen by clicking the 'Valid File Extentions' link just above the 'Browse' boxes. If you exceed this limit then you will just get a blank /forms/gallery/upload.php screen displayed.

There seems to be a bug with the error handling within this package. It's not a "hard" bug in that there is nothing reported in the PHP warnings log for the site, nothing reported in the Apache error.log for the site, nothing reported in the server logs. It just doesn't work!

Update : I had a quick look at this, several people are reporting the same problem on the vBadvanced forums. I've added us to the list of people with problems, another guy has raised a support ticket for it, this looks like a bug in the Gallery beyond our control.

Bug #2 : Occasionally the thumbnail generation seems to fail, we've only seen this once so far. Again this needs tracking and investigating.

The product we're using is the vBadvanced Gallery, their site is on http://www.vbadvanced.com/ if anybody fancies a plough through that then it would be much appreciated.

I've managed to post a few shots in the gallery now. So some of it works. I note that the file size is limited to 2MB per file - is this a bit big? Will it eat up your server space? Also my usage is:

You have used a total of 824.59 KB space out of Unlimited space allowed.
You have Unlimited space remaining.

Would it be prudent to set a nominal user limit that may be relaxed by the mods at the request of the individual? Otherwise I'll post all my 10,000 2.0MB photos for everyone to see :D.

However, I tried to set up a new category "Hong Kong" in the members category to post all my local photos in to keep them in one place. That worked - at least it appears that I have a new category called "Hong Kong"
but I'm not sure how I now post my pictures to this category.

Any ideas anyone? The category doesn't appear as an option when I use the upload page.

Also - how can posters of images edit what they upload? And can they be given permission to delete stuff as well? Apologies for the 3 squid - but I can't see how I can delete the extra copies.

This part of the site is still a work in progress and maybe needs some FAQ information specific to the gallery. The general FAQ on the forums doesn't mention the gallery.

Cheers,
Tristan

ps - I keep getting the following error message when it doesn't work:
Safari can’t open the page “http://new.bsacforum.co.uk/forums/gallery/upload.php” because it could not connect to the server “new.bsacforum.co.uk”.

The image bug problem is still outstanding, I've got a potential work-around but I haven't got the time right now.

I've updated user permissions so that you can delete your own image, just take the 'Edit Image' option. I've limited non BSAC members to 512KB for their pictures, members still get unlimited or in some cases 10MB, that's yet more 'To Do'.

We will have to put some sensible limits on at some stage, but as we've got 80GB disks in these things if the members really want 10GB for their combined images then they can have it as far as I'm concerned :)

I agree with you about limits and then flexibility. When we get some circular tuits it will be done.

Keith,

Yes - I can now delete images using the edit option. But when I select the image tools button I get an error message:

"A Runtime Error has occurred.
Do you wish to Debug?

Line: 144
Error: 'null' is null or not an object"

Hope that means something to you.

Cheers,
Tristan
