I have an Aladdin Pro that is about 7 year old and has been used for a maximum of 40 dives. The battery indicates 60%, but it has not been used since March 2003(but appears ok). Uwatec recommend changing the battery as it has been inactive for so long. I would like to use it on hols in the new year but would be most disappointed if it failed during my first dive. I am drawn to having a new battery fitted, but this seems a great expense if I don't use the computer for another 5 years. Anybody any experience of this situation?

60% isn't really as indicative of the batteries remaining power as you would think. My experience with a smart com indicates that your computer will run out of steam very quickly and likely mid dive. I think you really need to decide whether you want to dive on computer or tables.
Why wouldn't you use it for another 5 years? If you are diving that irregularly I would sell it and use tables. I would also advise spending some time in water with an instructor refreshing your skills before going on hols especially if you have not dived for some time (4 years?)

Put it on ebay and sell it now.
Then buy yourself a Gekko.
User changeable batteries, mean a new set every 4 years isnt
going to break the bank.
Besides a new battery will set you back about £50-£60. That's
almost half the price of a new Gekko.
Sell it.
Sell it.
What he said...
You really don't want to restrict yourself to tables, do you?
Get rid of it, and then get a gekko...
