Hello - can anyone reccommend a good 5mm hood that's easy to put on (and take off), even with long hair and is not too restrictive around the face

Been googling for ages and still haven't found anything suitable...
cheers

Waterproof

Has a vent system as well that makes sure your head stays warm and
non-cone shaped :D

Also, you can, within reason, trim the face opening to make it a bit more comfy/less retrictive if you wish. Put the hood on and use a mirror and a bit of chalk to mark out where you want to cut back to (um, but don't take too much off).

Edit:- Whats happened to my picture :( If you quote me you see the link :(

That is cool . You can buy Nemo syle ones as well. Quite expensive IIRC. Good if your an instructor though as you will stand out underwater.

I got a free one with my first ND Dry suit and despite getting another one wih my new suit I stick to the original. It has a big rip up one side and probably not the most high tech hood, but it is so comfortable.

I have tried on a friends uber expensive hood and I still went back to mine, purely for comfort :) I had a very similar experince with some Mares Velo fins. Glad I never spent £80 on those.

Hello Alice

I went through 4 hoods before I bought the pinnacle merino lined hood. http://www.divestation.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Hoods_63.html

I don't think enough manufacturers understand what a nightmare long hair can be but the wool lining just slips over your hair rather than grab hold of it and try to wrench it out.

It is brilliant at going over my long hair. Nothing else came close, and it's warm, and I don't hurt my neck struggling to put it on and off. It was almost the most expensive hood I could find (which is probably why I took so long to buy it!) however I have also now bought the gloves as well.

Worth every penny.

I hate it when I agree with Terry :)

Waterproof are the way forward, extremely warm, very well made and seem to last for ever.

Hi Liz,
I look after the web site and shop at the Dive Station - thanks for the recommendation - I didn't know about the long hair angle, so that is very useful feedback - I will pass it back to the manufacturer as well.

Trainee in our club just bought a hood with a zip in the back (neoprene flap inside like booties) which apparently makes it easier with long hair.

Razor is the alternative.
